💭Where is Pattaya in Thailand?
Speaking of Pattaya..., it has... BEACH🌴!
It is pretty easy access from Bangkok, which takes 2-3 hours by car. Taxi and bus can be used.
💰 Perticipation Fee
You can choose from full marathon, half (21.1km), 10km, and 4.5km. Since I practiced a bit this time, I applied for half marathon for the first time! My husband applied for half too.
Half: 750 Baht
We applied during "early bird" period (June 1st-3rd). The regular price was 900 Baht, so we saved 300 Baht for 2 persons. That's a big difference!
💬FYI...
From Bangkok to Pattaya, we moved by BUS.
Costs 164 Baht /person (one way trip).
🏃 Flow of the race
The first step is to recieve a "race kit"(BIB, T-shirt, etc.) and to check in untill 22nd of July. This was our first time visiting Pattaya. We took a bus at Ekkamai Bus Terminal at 9am since we wanted to walk around Pattaya a bit. Around 11am, arrived at Pattaya North Bus Station. Headed out to Terminal 21 to check in!
I was like..."Wow...the race is litterally coming TOMORROW! CANNOT WAIT!"
There were some sports shops, shoes shops...etc. because of this big running event. It is always fun to look around those shops with my husband👀
We got this whrist bands↑ when we checked in. It means...certified with check-in...?lol Not sure...😂
The second step is to move to and check in a hotel. We booked a hotel which is locatetd pretty near to Terminal 21, the starting point. Available access by walk.
The starting time of Pattaya Marathon was actually around 5am! It's a late starting time compareed to other race in Thailand. So, we walked around the hotel and beach, then enjoyed local dinner right before the race day.
Little a bit early bed time....My husband were able to sleep well while I was too exited to sleep (as usual...lol)
The race day! We woke up around 3:30am. Got an energy from breakfast, and everything ready to go to the starting point!
BUT...RAINY...☔?!
Yup, it is rainy season in Thailand. We stayed at the hotel as long as possible, then headed out to the starting point in the seasonal rain...!
👀Atmosphere of the race
Half marathon had started around 5am! Even though it kept raining, I didn't see any problem due to excitment of runners including us!
I was a bit worrying about if I can finish my first half marathon. That is because I knew that it's getting hot if sun comes out, in addition, the starting time was later than usual.
But in reality, sun did not come out. Temperature was't getting very high. Actually, rain didn't annoy me... BUT humidity was super high! I got super sweated during the race...💦lol
About the course of the half marathon:
We ran along the Pattaya Beach mainly. Moved to run in town a little, then went back to the beach. You can enjoy sea view as well as town view since there are not skyscrapers a lot. Many locals were cheering us on by dancing and saying "Suu Suu~!(You got this!)".
Of course, photographers take many photos of your running, which can be downloaded later.
One thing I was really surprised at this marathon is that ice creams were handed out at some water & food station! lol I've never seen that before. I didn't try it out... I was eating dried rasins a lot instead...
Anyway! I kept running untill 14km, then the rest of the race, I walked and jogged. Finally, I had goaled within 3 hours for my first half marathon😆! Pretty much satidfied with my result since my target was within 3 hours to goal.
🏅After the race
After goaled, we had recieved a finisher T-shirt and a finisher medal.
These above are a finisher T-shirt and commemorative items. All items look cool and materials seem comfortable for running! (A commemorative sleeveless T-shirt and a backpack can be recieved before the race as a race kit.)
Next, we had recived tickets for food and sweets. By using this tickets, we got a bottle of water, some Thai noodle, and some Thai chiken rice. (Since my husband goaled earlier, he walked and saw around. Then, he got some soap and tooth paste as well. lol)
After all, we went back to the hotel and took shower....ate what we got....and then, said good-bye to Pattaya around noon. Back to Bangkok by bus.
How was our experience about Pattaya Marathon 2023🌊?
If it was not raining, I could view beautiful sea. BUT, this running experience with rainy season does worth for my future running! My husband and I were able to enjoy this race!
In my blog, I am introducing several running events and marathons with my experience. If you got interested in running in Thailand, check out following articles, too!↓
Let's enjoy running together~👋
