🏃Flow of the race

As for a marathon/running event in Thailand, we normally have to visit a race-kit collection, and go get BIB and souvenir items until the day before the race date*. If you are busy to go pick up, they can be sent by mail in most cases in advance. In our case, we try to go visit a race-kit collection as much as possible since we love to feel the exciting atmosphere there!

*Amazing Thailand Marathon Bangkok 2024 Racekit Collection: November 28th (Thur) - 30th (Sat)

📅The previous day: November 30th (Sat)

The race-kit collection was held at ... Central World! Same as last year!

On the 8th floor. Here is a map of the event venue↓

It's already crowded from the escalator going up to the 8th floor!😳 I strongly felt how popular ATMB is😳!

Getting into the event area, and passing by the TOYOTA booth on the right side.

A sign to the check-in/race-kit collection was found!
And finally...↓

Got to the check-in/race-kit collection area!

By the way, when I was looking up at some big hanging advertisement, there was...

A gold medalist at the Olympics,  Eliud Kipchoge! Omg... this picture looks so cool...😂💘 He actually joined to run 10km, which was definitely one of the exciting features of ATMB2024!

Okay, let's move back to the race-kit collection😆 Here is ATMB 2024's souvenir T-shirt

Wow... looks super cool... as always👏✨
(FYI, it was sleeveless last year, which looked also nice!)

And, look at the sleeves! I love these designs😍!

In addition, it has a reflector on the back, so no need to worry about running at midnight!

Not only the designs, but also the material of the clothes is amazingly thinner and cooler.

After we had completed our check-in and recieved our BIB and souvenirs,  we droped by shops/event booths area↓

There were lots shops and booths, which was very fun to walk around✊

BUT, the most interesting and striking thing is...↓

A BIG advertisement by NIKE to make you motivated! I do love this way of expression💘

I can't get up NOW→NOW  I'm awake.

Yeah😂 It happens all the time, especially marathons held in Thailand! You already know that the starting time is in the midnight most of the case. You might be sleeping if you did not join marathon race in Thailand. But now, you are awake to run! Very true!!

I'd never run A MARATHON→A MARATHON changed my life.

All the runners would agree with this fact, wouldn't they? Of course, I am one of them!

By the way, how big these advertisements were like this↓

Me and my husband got excited to take nice photos with those motivational messages📸💖

There were also some ATMB official photo booths! (It was too crowded to take photos😂)

All in all, we really had an enjoyable time at the race-kit collection, which made us motivated for the race✊!

After that, we went back to home and had an early dinner. Tried to go to bed around 6:30pm. Had some rest for 5 hours, and woke up around 11:30pm. I actually was not able to "sleep" well, but trying to close my eyes and just rest. I am not sure if it was enough rest/preparation for the race, but well... it happens...!

📅The race day: December 1st (Sun)

We were eating an easy breakfast and getting ready. We left home around 1:00am.

Headed out to MBK Centre, which is the starting point of ATMB2024 (while it was at Rajamangala National Studium in 2023). You can definitely feel the new course even from the NEW starting point!

It was around 25-26℃ at that time. A bit chilly compared to usual.

And finally...↓

Super illuminated MBK Centre were there! lol Those lights were very bright even in the middle of the night🌃✨

Not only the illuminations, but we were also very surprised at....

An overwelming number of runners on standby. (What time did you guys wake up...!?)

Anyway, I was heading to the entrance of MBK Centre to go bathroom, and I found...

Some cool advertisement in Thai...! I didn't understand what it says though😅!
(It says "It's time to challenge yourself" according to the Google Translate.)

An English sentence had poped up, too!
"The streets belong to you today."
I was motivated by this message from NIKE right before the race😂🙏

Anyway, I went to the bathroom at MBK Centre (and actually there were many people waiting.lol) Then, headed out to National Studium to leave our baggage.

Since the starting point and the finish line of half/full marathon of ATMB is usually differentthe baggage claim adopts a pretty unique but clever way to transport baggages from the start to the goal↓

Loading runners' baggages onto a large truck directly seems very time saving for operating!

After that, finally we moved to the waiting area for the wave start. I was categorized as Block-F, and the waiting area was....

1km away from the startline😂! Sure thing is that I cannot recognize the startline. lol

But, very crowded even at Block-F! Well... that's what the most popular marathon is like😂 I actually had an enjoyable time to feel some energetic atmosphere there right before the starting time💪😆

👀Atmosphere of the race

Half marathon starts at 2:00am!

BUT, as you can see, I didn't notice that😂 The waiting line was gradually moving forward, which notified me it started. Anyway I was moving forward by walking/jogging to the startline.

Finally! My half marathon journey was kicked off after 24 minutes of the starting time!

So, I was kinda freaked out because I didn't expect it took that time to across the startline. Since I was not able to find a pacer for 3-hours to finish, I was running faster than usual untill I catch up to the pacer. That was not the best way to control the race to be honest, but I actually found out that I can run at 6:00-7:00/km, which was 1:00-2:00/km faster than usual. This fact leads to my confidence👍️

Enough with the preamble. Let's get down to the main topic: How the marathon was? Of course, that was fun! But, in what aspects?

All in all, I found mainly 2 aspects of more interesting/enjoyable experience than others:
1. Amazing billboards all over the course to cheer for runners
2. Stunningly illuminated landmarks

Let's look back on the race/course by focusing on these 2 aspecs.

One of the amazing billbords was there around the 4km point, near Lumphini Park

"Need some cool air? Run faster. "

- ...Yeas...! Very true...😂 I will....!

Thanks to this motivational message from NIKE.. or somehow, I was able to find the pacer around the 7km point, which reassured me✊

And then, around the 12km point, near Victory Monument

"No one can tell if it's sweat or tears."

"The real race starts here."

- Halfway there! But, yeas, "the real race" from here...🏁!

I was almost hitting my limit though, I was enjoying to find a message billbord from NIKE and respond to it in my mind.

Around the 15km point, my feet was too tired to run... I was anyway trying to move forward by walking/jogging. Normally, it would be tough to get through this challenging situation, but there were actually the most favorite view waiting for me: Dusit Palace and Rajadamnern Studium.

Firstly, let's talk about Dusit Palace🏰. The architectures were stunningly illuminated, which was beautiful for sure. But, what I was very impressed was its breathtaking architectures and gardens themselves. I was overwhelmed its magnificence.

And then, Rajadamnern Studium🥊, where we can wacth a Muay Thai match, was also illuminated dazzlingly. Those lights gave me an energy to move forward!

I didn't take any pictuire of these landmarks because I want you to see in person! Please join the race and experience running with the beautiful view✊✨

After that, I found one more cheering message from NIKE↓

"This is why you got up so early."

- Omg... YEAAAS...! Literally, "EARLY"...!😂

Anyway, this words of support made me to keep walking/jogging. During pushing myself to finish, I found Democracy Monument and Giant Swing, which are very famous landmarks in Bangkok.

Finally, at Sanam Luang, I had finished the half-marathon in 3:12 (gun-time) / 2:47(chip-time)!🎖️Even though the time was not the best, that was really fun to run, and I was very glad to finish the race!

To summarize, I was able to enjoy to find amazing billbords with a motivational message from NIKE, which gave me a power to keep running. Also, running along/with beautiful landmarks in Bangkok could be absolutely sightseeing!🇹🇭🎖️

📝Some more Information

- The course of ATMB2023 was roughly to run from the east to the west of Bangkok area with lots ups/downs. On the other hand, ATMB2024 had a new course to run mainly the town center, which didn't have that ups/downs compared to 2023's (in my opinion).

- Water,  Sports drinks, ice creams, fruits, jelly, Thai sweets, etc. were provided at water/aid stations.

- I found many bathrooms during the race, so no worry!

- Your photos of running can be downloaded for free after the race!

 🏅After goaled

It was actually 5:00am when I finished the race, so still dark around there🌑 In addition, the finish area was so crowded. I got lost because of the darkness and its crowds💦 I asked some Thai runners the way to pick up free meals. Thanks to them, I was able to get some foods, and move to the place to sit down and chill. Appreciate it🙏🇹🇭

Anyway, here is the finisher medal🏅

How amazing this design is...✨!! I love this color, too💗! And...

The other side also looks cool!💘

By the way, foods in this photo are all free! There were a lot of options:
- Lunch box (I chose a fried chicken lunch box.)
- Soup
- Drinks (I got a bubble tea.)
- Ice cream
- Sweets
- Instant noodles (It was a bit spicy.)

Amazing services...👏😂, aren't they?
Not only that, but you can also enjoy other services after the race:
- Massage
- Water bath
- Coffee stand (might be charged.)
- Any other booths...

Even though there were a bunch of runners who finished the race at the finish area, I was able to take rest and chill because the area was vast👍

Besides, lets take a look at the finisher T-shirt!↓

Omg...😍 The coolest design!! I think all the landmarks are written in letters, which is my favorite point of this design!

Anyway, I had benn enjoying the time after the race, and waiting for my husband to finish the full marathon, but....

DNF because of sickness during the race😭

He somehow moved to the finish area after he dropped out. When I found him at the finish area, he really looked pale💦 We'd decided to go home as soon as possible.

So, the best way to go home easily is to take a free shuttle bus to MBK Centre from the finish area. There were a bit line, but it didn't take much time to get on.

When moving to the shuttle bus station,

I was able to take a nice picture of the finisher medal with sunrise at the royal area.

And, lastly...

"No human is limited." By Eliud Kipchoge

His impressive quote definitely made my day!!
