💭Where is Chiang Rai in Thailand? What's famous for?

Chiang Rai is located in the northernmost area in Thailand. (It takes about 1.5 hours flight from Bangkok.)

The northern area in Thailand is about ...Khao Soi !! (Thai curry noodles soup)
There are many restaurants of Khao Soi, so you can try and enjoy it enough. Each restaurant has different taste, spicy levels, and types of noodle, so you can compare and find which your taste is. That's fun😋!

In addition, Chiang Rai has tea plantations and coffee farms. I think the area is full of nature. Delicious tea/coffee is one of the appealing point of Chiang Rai! (in my opinion.)

💰Perticipation Fee

Half Marathon:750 Baht+32.80 Baht(Payment fee)

We applied the race at the middle of November 2023 since my husband hoped to run one more half-marathon race before getting into the hottest season in Thailand

💬FYI…

Round trip flight ticket (Bangkok - Chiang Rai) costed 5630 Baht for 2 adults .
One-way trip:1400 Baht /adult.

Considering the long distance, I feel it is very reasonable to travel💓!

🏃Flow of the race

On January 27th, we departed from Bangkok (DMK airport) at 6:55am to Chiang Rai because we wanted to go sightseeing!
Arrived at Chiang Rai around 8:30am!
Visited a tea plantation. Enjoyed tea and cakes.
Visited a hot spring. Enjoyed a footbath for free.
Checked in a hotel near Chiang Rai Clock Tower.
Enjoyed Khao Soi for lunch.
Headed to Race-kit collection(noon-6:00pm)!

Well, yep.....! We came here for the marathon race. lol
As always, runners have to go pick up their BIBs and the event shirts...etc., and check-in the day before the race date.

Race-kit callection was held outside at  The Old Chiang Rai City Hall (The starting point of the race)!

There were a booth for photo shooting. (We took photos with our BIBs📷)
There is no picture but there was some booth for selling sports gears, too!

We were able to confirm the starting point in advance, which was pretty helpful for us. No need to look for it on the race day!

By the way, this is the race-kit! ↓↓

- The event shirt! We could choose from several shapes (like...T-shirts/sleeveless/ ...etc.) when applying the race. (FYI, BIB does NOT have a timing chip. I asked the admin and they told me that they have a chipless time recording system!)

- Headlight! I was like "Wow..really? Is it gonna be darker...?"

- Some cream for pain relief(?)! Cool and refreshing feelings when applied.

After checked-in the race,  we enjoyed coffees at some cafe, and had dinner around the hotel. Then, went to sleep earlier...💤

Race day on January 28th!

Woke up around 3:30am, then had a red bean bread, a banana, yogurt...Anyways, I ate foods as much as possible.

We departed to The Old Chiang Rai City Hall around 4:20am

We left our baggage at the cloakroom...

Then, warm-up with music....↓

After that, runners were gathered to the starting point. All runners have the same staring time, so each runners can take their prefferd point to start. I saw not only Thai runners but also many runners from other countries😲!

👀Atmosphere of the race

Half marathon started at 5:00am! It was 18℃! Very cool!

I decided to follow a pacer (2.5 hours to goal). I was able to follow them untill 6km point, and untill there, there were street lights.....but...

At 7km point, it was completely DARKNESS!!! lol
I lost the pacer. lol I heard barking of neighbors' dogs or wild dogs during running there. Well, I got to understand the reason why headlights were provided. lol

After 8km point, I guess I ran a mountain road. (TBH... I am not 100% sure since it was all dark.) There were a little amout of street lights, but I used my headlight to prevent from getting hit by a car.

There were around 10 water stations in total. There were cups of water and (maybe) energy drink. Fruits were also provided at some station.

Sure, photographers were taking nice pictures! (You can buy later!) Thank you always!!📷🙏

Anyway, I kept running untill 16km point, then walked and jogged the rest. I completed this half marathon: 2:40 (2 hours and 40 minutes)! I was aiming to goal within 2:45, so very satisfied with my new record!

Also, my husband broke his record, too! Congrats!! He did really good job!

All in all, that was very cool and comfortable temparature during running this half marathon! Of course, we got sweat, but not bad👍

There were not many people who were cheering us on, but runners who already goaled were cheering me on when getting close to the goal. AND, the goal point had very warmful atomosphere, which was very impressive💚

🏅After goaled

After we goaled, we recieved a finisher medal and T-shirts. ↓

This finisher medal looks shiny and pretty~✨

This finisher T-shirts has some pattern printed, which looks Thai somehow~! Cool~!

After recieved the medal and T-shirts, we went to receive FOOD!!!↓

I got 2 bowls of food. (3 bowls for maximam available.) I loooooove this Thai sticky rice😍

Also, I got an instant cup noodle. It is actually the best to eat a cup noodle after the half-marathon.....🤣!

The atomosphere there is really PEACEFUL! We did love spending time there~🍀

We headed back to the hotel around 9:00am. We took a shower... and had rest...then, checked out.
Visited a coffee farm to enjoy a delicious local coffee.
Had Khao Soi for lunch.
Departed from Chiang Rai to Bangkok at 4:00pm!
